A romance that began with a chance meeting on the other side of the world sounds like a movie script but is the real-life love story of Erin Gardner and Braden Reghenzani.
The couple grew up less than two hours from each other near Murray River towns, but didn’t cross paths until both were working at a summer camp in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania, USA.
And despite their extensive overseas travel adventures, including getting engaged on a boat overlooking an illuminated Hong Kong city, the couple chose to get married on the banks of the Murray at Perricoota Station, Moama.
Location, location, location
Perricoota Station at Moama ticked all the boxes for Erin and Braden when they were searching for a reception venue with its picturesque waterfront location, historic buildings and landscaped gardens.
“We didn’t want to have to spend time driving between the ceremony and reception because we wanted to spend as much time as possible with our guests,” Erin said.
Usually it’s the bride that makes a grand entrance to the ceremony but at Erin and Braden’s celebration it was the groom who arrived in style.
“Braden grew up on the Murray so that’s what he wanted to do, arrive to the wedding in his boat,” Erin said.
A wedding keepsake
The bride’s father Drew wanted to create something special for the couple, not only for their wedding day, but as a memento to remind them of the day they said ‘I do’.
“Dad designed and created the arbour we got married under. It’s now in our garden and we can enjoy it for years to come,” Erin said.
Bold burgundy dresses, worn in two different styles by the bridesmaids added an on-trend stylish splash of colour to Erin and Braden’s big day.
Cream and pale pink toned bouquets of home-grown roses, amaranth, berzilla berry, dahlia and snowberry, edged with local native wattle foliage were a stunning finishing touch.
Instead of a formal dessert course the couple planned a table of sweet treats so guests could help themselves throughout the evening.
“My mother-in-law is a beautiful baker so we had biscuits and slices, along with the wedding cake. By the time dessert comes around people are often mingling and don’t sit at the table to eat, this was so much more social,” Erin said.
