There was something truly magical about Ebony Gilbee and Matt McManus’ wedding day. With a personal approach to planning, their dream day oozed romance, elements of tradition and meaningful twists.
For Ebony and Matt it was important their wedding was a true representation of their relationship and passions.
Rather than incorporating tradition for tradition’s sake, they chose to include formalities and modern touches meaningful to them.
“We did whatever felt right – we kept the traditions that meant something to us, but were also happy to embrace new ideas,” Ebony said.
From signature cocktails – a sweet gin fusion named ‘The Pouty Princess’ and a whisky beverage dubbed ‘The McManus Mule’ – to the inclusion of fur-babies British bulldogs Summer and Fergus; each element was highly personal.
These individual details were ever-present from the moment Ebony walked down the aisle wearing a custom-made, pastel pink ball gown.
Always dreaming of wearing a classic design, she added a modern edge with the help of retired dressmaker Lynn Trusler and a little inspiration from her favourite colour.
“It came together based on other designs I liked but making it more me,” she said.
To keep the gown a surprise, Ebony had to think creatively, asking the groomsmen to give Matt his pink tie on the morning of the wedding.
At Echuca’s Aquatic Reserve, Ebony and Matt declared their love under a handmade arbour crafted by the father-of-the-groom, Bernie.
It made a second appearance at the reception, transformed into a swing and doubling as a gorgeous photo prop.
“The arch will be placed in our garden to remind us of the special day and hopefully our children may use it for their wedding one day,” Ebony said.
For a twist on the classic canapés cocktail hour, guests were treated to a champagne bar, ice-cream truck and garden games for young and old, before heading to the Radcliffe’s reception.
Embracing the venue’s garden vibes they crafted a dreamy atmosphere with a sea of fresh flowers, mood lighting and scented candles.
The custom candles created by Solasta Candle Co were based on Ebony’s wedding perfume – peony roses and blush – and doubled as bonbonnieres.
